Conditions let your upsell funnel show different offers to different customers. Instead of every customer seeing the same sequence, a condition checks something about the order (the products in the cart, the order total, the customer's lifetime value, the number of items or the coupon used) and sends the customer down a Yes path or a No path.
For example, customers whose order total is over $50 could see a premium bundle, while everyone else sees a smaller add-on.
Note - Conditional upsell funnels are available on the Pro plan and above. You'll need an existing upsell funnel to add conditions to. If you haven't built one yet, start with our Smart Upsell Funnels article.
Step 1: Open Your Upsell Funnel
Head over to the Offers tab within your marketplace, click the Smart Upsell Funnels tab, and open the funnel you want to add conditions to.
Step 2: Add a Condition
Click any upsell card in your funnel. + Condition buttons appear around the card, and where you click decides where the condition goes:
- Left of the card - adds a condition in front of this upsell. The upsell moves onto the condition's Yes path.
- Right of the card - adds a condition after the customer accepts this upsell.
- Below the card - adds a condition after the customer declines this upsell.
The new condition appears as an orange-bordered card labelled Condition. You can also add a condition from another condition's Yes or No path, so you can chain several checks together.
Step 3: Choose What the Condition Checks
Click the condition card and choose a condition type from the first dropdown.
Then choose an operator from the second dropdown and enter the value to compare against. The operators change depending on the condition type:
| Condition | What it checks | Operators | Value you enter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Products Present | Whether specific products are in the cart | Any are present, None are present, All are present | Search for and select products |
| Order Total | The cart total | Equals, Less than, Greater than | A dollar amount |
| Customer LTV | The customer's lifetime value in your marketplace (total charges minus refunds) | Equals, Less than, Greater than | A dollar amount |
| Cart Quantity | The number of items in the cart | Equals, Less than, Greater than | A number |
| Coupon | Whether a specific coupon is used | Applied, Not applied | Search for and select a coupon |
You'll also see Custom Field in the list, which lets you build a condition around one of your checkout custom fields.
For Order Total and Customer LTV, enter the amount in dollars, for example 50.00, not in cents.
For Coupon, search for the coupon by name and select it. Only coupons from this marketplace will match.
When you've set the condition, click Done.
The card collapses to a short summary of the rule, so you can read the funnel at a glance. Click the card again at any time to edit it.
Step 4: Build the Yes and No Paths
Every condition has two paths:
- Yes - the blue line on the right. Customers go this way when the condition is met.
- No - the red line below. Customers go this way when the condition isn't met.
Use the + Upsell and + Condition buttons at the end of each path to decide what comes next. A path can lead to an upsell, to another condition, or you can leave it empty to end the funnel there.
Step 5: Save Your Funnel
Click Save Changes in the top right corner. Your conditions save with the rest of the funnel, so there's no separate step.
Removing a Condition
Click the condition card, open the three-dot menu in its top right corner and select Remove. If the condition was the first step in your funnel, the upsell on its Yes path becomes the first upsell again. Click Save Changes to keep the change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When is a condition checked?
A: At the moment the customer reaches it in the funnel. The cart contents, totals and coupon are checked right then, not when you saved the funnel.
Q: Does Customer LTV include purchases from my other marketplaces?
A: No. Customer LTV only counts what the customer has spent in this marketplace, minus any refunds.
Q: Should I enter dollar amounts in cents?
A: No. Enter dollars, for example 50.00 for fifty dollars.
Q: Can I use more than one condition in a funnel?
A: Yes. You can chain conditions, for example checking Customer LTV first, then the products in the cart, then the order total.
Q: Will this change my existing upsell funnels?
A: No. Funnels without conditions work exactly as they did before.
