The Facebook Conversions API provides "server side" tracking from SamCart directly back to your Meta Ads Dashboard. This direct link has some advantages over SamCart's Meta Pixel integration alone, and can be used in conjunction with your Meta Pixel!
Setting Up Meta Conversion API
Connecting with the Meta Conversions API is done by adding an optional Access Token from Meta to your Pixel Tracking setup within SamCart. You will need to add your Pixel ID to SamCart before adding the Access Token.
To get your Meta Pixel ID visit your Meta Events Manager Dashboard, go to your pixel's Settings tab, and copy your Pixel ID.
If you are having trouble locating or still need to create your Meta Pixel ID, check out this article from Meta for assistance!
Next, you will need to generate a API Access Token inside of Meta. To do this, go back to the Meta Events Manager. In the existing Meta Pixel, go to Settings again and scroll down to Conversions API.
Click Generate access token to expose a one-time access token for the API.
Now head to your SamCart Marketplace Settings by clicking the Settings button in your lefthand marketplace navigation bar. Once within your Marketplace Settings, click on the Tracking and Pixels tab (you should already have the Meta Pixel Tracking toggled "on," and your Pixel ID entered). Now you can paste the Access Token you copied from Meta into the Access Token box!
Click the Save Changes button in the top right corner, and you're done! You should see the success popup at the bottom of your screen, and are now ready to track sales with Meta Conversion API.
How SamCart Passes Information to Meta
When you save the Access Token in your Tracking and Pixels settings this will automatically create a connection with Meta via SamCart's App Marketplace, and create a rule for that connection that tells SamCart how to send information to Meta with the Conversion API. To see this connection/rule, head over to SamCart's App Marketplace by clicking the Apps tab in your lefthand marketplace navigation bar. Search for Facebook and click Open App. Once you have opened the Meta connection, you will see two rules that have been created. These are the two events that will be automatically tracked by adding your Meta Access Token to SamCart.
Whenever a purchase occurs and this connection fires, you can go to the Logs section within the Facebook connection in your SamCart App Marketplace to see that purchase set over to Meta. Note - the Action may sometimes show as "Send a POST for the specified trigger" rather than "Track conversion event." This is correct.
Each time that product is purchased, SamCart will fire this script and pass information back to Facebook, making your campaigns smarter than ever!
